Desire Lines: Understanding The Roots With SG Lewis
Landing an appearance on late night American TV – in this case, The Late Late Show with James Corden – is a pretty big deal. One that SG Lewis can now add to his list of achievements. He says this “strange amazing moment” was “also quite humbling”, given he made his debut appearance from his parents attic without socks on. The UK producer joins Tanya to chat about his debut record.
The record times features collaborations with “some of my biggest influences and favourite artists” such as Robyn, Channel Tres and Nile Rodgers. SG says he learns a lot from collaborating with people and he is also conscious of educating himself on the roots of disco. “The more people who understand the roots of the music [...] then the less space there is for those people who feel negatively towards the communities who pioneered the genre, such as queer and Black communities,” he says.
