Byte Into IT: Ever Felt Like Hugging Your Food? Exercising Self-control with Naomi Kakoschke
There are lots of apps that claim to make us healthy, but how many are backed by scientific research? Naomi Kakoschke from Monash University shares some of her research into approach avoidance technology and the development stages of an app that functions differently to a lot of other health apps out there by using brain training techniques and a gamified operating system to improve cognitive awareness of ‘bad choices’.
The app encourages self-control for the user through simply bringing an image of healthy food closer, while pushing unhealthy food away. While the app is still in the development stage, Kakoschke hopes this straight-forward approach to making healthier choices keeps improving, one tilt of the phone at a time.
