From an episode of Breakfasters
Breakfasters: Respecting and Understanding Aunt Flo
Jane Bennett, menstrual educator and co-author of About Bloody Time: The Menstrual Revolution We Have to Have, speaks to Breakfasters about the phenomenon that happens to half the human population: the period. Jane aims to dispel the shame and stigma attached to this very necessary bodily function, focusing on the personal instead of the medical. She discusses polling over 3,500 women and girls of all ages, from every socio-economic, familial and cultural background about their experiences, what they disliked and what they wished to learn about the menstrual cycle. ‘I feel we’re not doing a very good job of helping girls have a positive experience,’ Jane says, regarding the research. ‘We have a long way to go.’
