Breakfasters: George Megalogenis Explains the Political Circus Damaging Ties With Asia
Journalist, author and political commentator George Megalogenis joins Breakfasters to talk about his latest essay on how Australia’s rookie PMs are affecting our ties with Asia. George reminds us that ever since John Howard, our Prime Ministers have had little experience with foreign affairs (Rudd being the notable exception). Where Howard had time to grow into the job, the last few PMs have been ousted before they were able to build up experience in the Asian region. Critically, none of the latest PMs have had the opportunity to leave a positive impression in Asia. George argues that our leaders need to be in the job long enough to ‘grow up’ in order to make greater contributions to the region.
