Breakfasters: 150 Years Of Melbourne Town Hall

What do The Beatles, ABBA, Elizabeth Taylor, and boxer Lionel Rose all have in common? They've all stood on steps of the Melbourne Town Hall or waved to fans from the famous portico balcony. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the iconic establishment – and to celebrate, writer, editor and curator Andrew Stephen has created an exhibition called You Are Cordially Invited

Andrew says that the building is much more than just a place for council members to work, and has hosted a remarkable array of events. From muscle men to cooking demonstrations, union meetings, coming out balls, comedy festivals and vaccination drives, the halls and rooms in the Town Hall have hosted almost everything. This exhibition celebrates the immense assortment of events and celebrities the building has hosted over the past 150 years, along with the council chambers, the history of the building and the street side of the building.
