Writer and Director Talia Liddle (Arrernte and Luritja) and Writer and Producer Travis Cloudy (Torres Strait Islander man from Ugar, Iama and Erub Islands) join Vanessa Morris on Banksia to talk about award winning film Protest on the Dancefloor.

Writen and directed by Talia and produced and starring Travis, Protest on the Dancefloor is a new film that explores how Blackfellas in Naarm (Melbourne) use music and dancefloors to create spaces of sovereignty, connection and liberation amidst an ever-changing political climate.

Through the film, we hear perspectives about the importance of the dancefloor for First Nations people from Travis Cloudy, Paul Gorrie / DJPGZ, Nayuka Gorrie/NAYCAB and Skye Thomas/Soju Gang.

Talia also spoke about receiving the Uncle Jack Charles Awards as Director of Protest of the Dancefloor, acknowledging that it wouldn't be possible without her team, as creating the film was a massive team effort.

Protest on the Dancefloor premiered at MIFF and was created with support through Sovereign Shorts a partnership between VicScreen, NITV and MIFF.

It is available to watch online through MIFF until 30 August and will be available through NITV in early 2027.
