The rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle is sold as the ultimate ride, with the whiff of endless partying and prestige in the offing. But living the dream is not all riffs and spliffs as many musos find out, and when the stage lights fade a deeper darkness can descend.

This is where Support Act steps in, providing support for musicians and other industry workers to help let some light in through the cracks.

The Wellbeing Helpline is staffed by professional counselors who are on-hand for a chat day or night, every day of the year.

Support Act boss Clive Miller recently spoke to Local and/or General about the helpline.

He recognised the heavy demands of the industry, and that mental health is as important as physical wellbeing.

He also noted that, while rewarding in other ways, a career in music doesn’t always lead to riches, which can trigger anxiety and other problems. Also, being on tour can be a blast, but can take a heavy toll as well.

The Support Act Wellbeing Helpline is available 24/7 on 1800 959 500 every day of the year. They encourage anyone with an inkling to get in touch.

The hotline also suggests calling in for a friend that you’re worried about – sometimes it’s nice to be thought of.
