Lanes and lanes and lanes is the debut album from new Naarm/Melbourne trio The Truffle Pigs, out on the band's own label Docklands Records.
The group consists of Steph Hughes (Dick Diver/Hedge Burners/Boomgates), Amy Hill (Sleeper and Snake/Constant Mongrel/Terry) and Al Montfort (Dick Diver/Sleeper and Snake/Terry et al.), emerging as a recorded project for the first time after a handful of rare live appearances over the years.
The album features the familiar songwriting of three veterans of the Australian underground, taking cues from their respective projects, and stripping back their songwriting to the bare essentials.
Utilising only a handful of instruments in their arsenal, the record explores themes of suburban melancholia delivered with a wink and a nod to the absurdity of modern living. Musically, the album references elements of outsider folk, alt-country and DIY indie, but ultimately culminates in a sonic footprint that only could have been left by the people involved.
Lanes and lanes and lanes was recorded and mixed by the band themselves, and released with little fanfare on their own label Docklands Records, creating a welcome addition to the back catalogues of some of Melbourne's most quietly prolific musical heroes.
