Jutna is a new collaborative musical project conceived of by record label and artist collective Music in Exile.
The group, assembled and led by Boubacar Gaye from Melbourne/Naarm ensemble Ausecuma Beats, also features Gordon Li (aka Don Glori), Harry Ling (aka Mackwood), Seydou 'Kanazoé' Diabaté, bandleader from Kanazoé Orkestra, , a Senegalese poet and songwriter Sény 'Magou' Samb, and Mamadou Dembélé, a traditional ngoni, kora, and djembe player from Burkina Faso, now based in Marseille.
Bringing the ensemble's sound to life was producer and engineer Stefan Blair (one half of Good Morning), who recorded the album at the Old Carpet Factory studio on the Greek island of Hydra.
The sound that emerged from the sessions demonstrates a true amalgamation of the identities that encompass the project, with the band blending West African instrumentation, modern jazz grooves and cosmic psych explorations to great effect. The end result is an exhilarating and singular listening experience built on true collaboration and cultural exchange.
