Abbots Yard transforms into a pulsating celebration of African and Afro-Colombian musical exchange. At the helm is El Gran Mono - the first authentic Colombian picó sound system built outside of Colombia. With its towering, hand-painted fluorescent speaker stack, El Gran Mono is not just a sound system but a cultural icon, bringing the vibrant street party traditions of Colombia's Caribbean coast direct to Abbotsford.

The day features a high energy live soukous band and a line-up of the city's finest DJs tracing the trans-Atlantic connection. Originating in the Congo Basin, the joyous, guitar-driven rhythms of soukous traveled to Colombia’s port cities in the 1970s, giving rise to the globally celebrated Champeta movement.

This open air gathering is an accessible and inclusive celebration for fans of African music and curious newcomers alike, united by a shared love of rhythm, dance, and sound system culture.
