Melbourne pastoral indiepop stalwarts, The Smallgoods are finally ready to launch their new album Lost in the Woods, with a show at The Bridge on Saturday, 14th May.
A decade-and-a-half since the release of their previous album - 2007’s sprawling epic, 'Down on the Farm' - The Smallgoods prove they still wield the mastery of the pop hook for good and not evil.
Self-produced in a secluded studio outside of Melbourne in the lush forest of the Dandenong Ranges, the aptly named Lost in the Woods shows The Smallgoods have lost none of their predilection for spiking wondrous pop songs with a hefty dose of expansive psychedelia and dark balladry.
On their third album, the inherent songcraft that has sprinkled the proverbial magic dust across albums by The Zebras and Architecture in Helsinki is on full display; with three brilliant songwriters on hand – Ben Mason and the brothers Lachlan and Gus Franklin – there’s never been a shortage of hooks among the group’s toolbag.
