Monotonix
Music Release
Where Were You When It Happened?
Although the Israeli rock trio has been together since 2005, this is their first full-length release for Drag City.
Where Were You When It Happened? is a fitting album title for a band whose energetic and crazy live performances leave this question hanging over every place they visit. Although the album doesn’t leave quite as lasting an impression given its sound does not challenge that of rock luminaries like Led Zeppelin and The Stooges, if you like your music loud, heavy and frenetic then its definitely worth a listen.
Coming in at under thirty-five minutes (not much longer than the Body Language EP it follows on from) it also won’t require too much of your time but perhaps a lot of your air- guitar energy! Of the eight tracks which make up Where Were You When It Happened? you should find yourself particularly rocking to album opener, Flesh and Blood and the riff-heavy Set Me Free.
But to truly experience the musical force of Monotonix is to see them perform live. If you have the courage to get up close and personal with the band, given their preferred gig set-up is in the middle of the crowd rather than onstage, then catch them at Melbourne’s, Ding Dong Lounge and also at this year’s Golden Plain’s Festival.
