The Tallman
Presents Radiotherapy
How did you first connect with Triple R?
Bumped into Dr Mal Practice and Dr Zivargo in South Melbourne in the mid 1990's, they asked me to come onto their embryonic medical show called Radiotherapy. I came on, did a couple of shows and they never got rid of me.
What/when was your first show?
I have been doing regular shows from 1997 and then took over producing the show in 2003 when The Retina went on sabbatical leave.
What's your favourite Triple R story?
We have had lots of Radiotherapy moments mostly around dead air, but it would be the resuscitation of David Speller from Radio Marinara. He became profoundly hypertensive (had no blood pressure) in the green room while we were live on-air. The major problem was that I was the only physician and the rest of the team were psychiatrists. Have you ever seen a psychiatrist try and resuscitate someone? Needless to say by the time we got him into the ambulance he was at one with his deepest psychological issues.
Your favourite other Triple R program and why?
Tim Thorpe Vital Bits, nobody, I mean nobody plays the range of music that Tim does.
What does Triple R mean to you?
Its community and a fun way of participating, most people who listen to our show will realise we are all great friends and Radiotherapy is our way of catching up with each other.
The studio door has accidentally jammed shut with you stuck inside. If there was only one CD in there with you what would you want it to be and why?
Look I hate to admit it but it would be a box set of the Beatles, reminds me of my youth, optimism and a simpler more uncomplicated time.
What deep secret can you tell us about radiotherapy?
Very few people know this but Baby Doc is actually a transsexual...he used to be a girl.
