Presents Incoming

How did you first connect with Triple R?

I came in many times when playing in bands and became friends with various announcers. I learned how to do the desk by looking over shoulders and faking it...still am!

What/when was your first show?

I started as a co-presenter of Local and/or General on Monday nights… I guess it was in the late 90s sometime. I’ve been doing Incoming since 2000, but weirdly still feel like I have my radio learner plates on.

Your favourite other Triple R program and why?

I love Wig Wam Bam simply because Woody plays an unpredictable mix and you can always expect to hear something interesting and new alongside familiar tracks… makes for a fun listen. My radio hero is Karen Leng – discovered so much amazing music because of her…

What does Triple R mean to you?

I always get the feeling that the mainstream media is in some kind of conspiracy to treat the world like morons. RRR does the opposite and the fact that the community has access and contributes to it’s existence via subscriptions is truly fantastic. The fact that 10,000+ people pay money every year for such a thing as a free to air radio station never ceases to amaze me. It’s a privilege to be allowed to do a show and choose the tunes.

The studio door has accidentally jammed shut with you stuck inside. If there was only one CD in there with you what would you want it to be and why?

Hell… I’d probably have my ipod in my pocket, so I’d simply plug it into a channel on shuffle and it’d be three weeks before it repeated a song. Every one would have to be happy with that (although my taste often errs on the dodgy side!). CDs are dying and will be gone soon anyhow. The fact that I can travel with 3000 odd records in my pocket always amazes me – I never would have believed it possible 10 years ago… One of the greatest ever world inventions for a music geek like me!
