Presents Local and/or General
How did you first connect with Triple R?
Being fairly new to Melbourne, I first became aware of RRR when I moved to the holy city in 2005. I quickly learnt of RRR's awesomeness. It became a weekly ritual to listen to The Ghost's quizzes on Fridays, and I'd always tune into Ryan Egan on Local and/or General to see what was going on in the local music scene. I would also indulge in some voyeuristic fun time fantasies listening to Best of the Brat.
More recently I started volunteering at the station - doing graveyards and helping with Australian music allocations. Then Luke and I did a program together called 'Bad Crumbs' over summer 08/09. The rest is history!
What/when was your first show?
Local and/or General!
What's your favourite Triple R story?
This one time a certain rock star was in an especially cranky mood, and not very happy about coming into RRR for an interview. But as soon as he met the lovely Lauren Taylor for a chat on Exit Music he was mesmerized - goodbye Mr. Cranky Pants, hello Mr. Charming! Lauren later told me that she ran into said rock star and his band mate on a beach in St Kilda the next day and they both gave her a big hug. Aww. That's the power of RRR.
Your favourite other Triple R program and why?
I have so many! Wig Wam Bam is probably my favourite RRR program of all time; no one else except Woody can play obscure punk-rock followed by a slammin' hip hop track. I also love Breaking and Entering, To And Fro, Against The Artic and Noise in My Head. We are spoilt for choice at RRR, there are so many amazing programs and announcers.
What does Triple R mean to you?
In my humble opinion, RRR is about providing a truly independent source of quality music, and information on art and culture to listeners. RRR excels at creating and facilitating a community of music lovers. It is such a privilege for me to be associated with such talented and passionate people.
The studio door has accidentally jammed shut with you stuck inside. If there was only one CD in there with you what would you want it to be and why?
Person Pitch by Panda Bear - it would keep me from freaking out about being locked in a small room and attempting to eat my own arm.
If you could be anyone, who would you be?
Rick Astley, for his awesome dance moves.
