Dave Slutzkin
Presents To and Fro
How did you first connect with Triple R?
Serendipity. As with most good things in my life, it happened because I had a crush on a girl. She had pigtails and brown skirts and a crappy vintage bike and on the cross-bar was a sticker which said "Triple M Rocks Football!" I later discovered that she'd borrowed the bike from her brother, but gee I learned to love Chisel.
But then the radio in my car stopped working. Slowly but surely I was reduced to AM radio only. After three months of Jon Faine, it became apparent that state politics was a hotbed of intrigue and controversy. Then Kennett was voted out.
Not long after that I grew up and realised that there was a radio station with more than one dimension which could provide me with almost all I needed. Despite RRR's criminal under-playing of the early TISM records, I was home.
What/when was your first show?
My musical idol, Tim, and I started To and Fro in late 2007. Since then, we've become a Melbourne institution amongst the large, influential Tuesday night insomniac community.
What's your favourite Triple R story?
That one about Stephen Walker and Princess Di.
Your favourite other Triple R program and why?
Against the Arctic is pretty amazing - in fact, anything on Sunday is basically great. Not to mention Wig-Wam Bam and The Drift - former music coordinators make excellent radio. And I do have a serious soft geek spot for Zero G and Byte Into It. And Frank and The Skull Cave and, of course, the Breakfasters.
What does Triple R mean to you?
Variety. Wilful boundary pushing and horizon shifting. Making the world a different place, one show at a time.
The studio door has accidentally jammed shut with you stuck inside. If there was only one CD in there with you what would you want it to be and why?
I'd wish for three more wishes!
Why are you never hungry at the beach?
Because of the sand that is there!
Hmm, that didn't quite come out right. Can I have another go?
