ACMI SCREEN WORLDS SPECIAL

14th Nov 09

ACMI SCREEN WORLDS SPECIAL:

Coinciding with the recent opening of SCREEN WORLDS, ACMI's permanent exhibition space documenting all aspects of film, television and digital culture, Film Buffs Forecast , which broadcast from the venue when it first opened in October 2001, returned to see first hand the massive changes and advances that have taken place.

Today's show

This week's program features an audio guided tour of the ground floor gallery and exhibition spaces at Federation Square.

Tony Sweeney, approaching his fifth anniversary as CEO of ACMI, talks candidly about the ups and downs of running a cultural institution which seems to have finally overcome the teething problems which he inherited on his arrival in 2004.

Head of Exhibtions, Conrad Bodman, takes listeners through the ground floor SCREEN WORLDS gallery, pointing out the features of a high-tech environment which chronicles the history of cinema and television from pre-cinema origins to the digital age where gaming and interactivity are redefining the horizons of visual culture.

Nick Richardson, Collections Manager, talks about AUSTRALIAN MEDIATHEQUE, a national screen culture resource centre - a massive library free and open to the public which encompasses a vast collection of Australian and international screen culture history which can be easily accessed in on-site private booths.

And finally Mathieu Orleans, curator from the Cinematheque Francaise, discusses  his career and the Dennis Hopper And The New Hollywood exhibition which he curated.
