Spun Out: The Shane Warne Story by Paul Barry.
$34.95
They say that pets are often the dead spit of their owners and
couples end up resembling each other, but could the same be true
of biographies and their subjects? Fat, showy, self-important and
dumb, Paul Barry's book on Shane Warne is a reasonable argument
for the prosecution. Supposedly controversial (Warne didn't want
it written and wouldn't talk to Barry at all about it) it's a
lukewarm rehash of tabloid headlines with no new insights, a few
lacklustre photo sections, about 500 too many pages, creaking
clichйs (Warne is a walking paradox apparently) and a
clever-clever tone without any actually clever insights. Talented
journalist Barry could do better and cricket fans and readers
could do much much better. Go and buy a trashy mag instead.
You'll get the same information but at least it's
unapologetically disposable.
