The Grapevine: Vic Treaty Update with the First People’s Assembly

Proud Gunditjmara man and Co-Chair of the First People’s Assembly of Victoria, Rueben Berg, joins Anna Strempel for a Victorian treaty update for 2024.

They discuss the current state of Treaty progress, how initial negotiations will commence later in the year and the recent announcement of the Victorian Opposition’s withdrawal of support for the treaty.

“We’ve worked and negotiated with the government to establish a Treaty Authority… to make sure that all groups whether that’s the State or the Traditional Owner groups or the Assembly are coming to the table in line with the framework, rules and principles we agreed to so that we can get the best outcomes through treaty.”
