Rising First Nations artist Canisha will make the Kew Court House blackbox theatre space her own for a night that gives the audience a close-up view of a star on the rise.

A soulful singer with a searing edge, Melbourne-based Canisha caught the imagination of music fans at St Kilda Music Festival, Music for Mob at the Brunswick Music Festival, and headlining Melbourne’s Blak Stage at the Retreat Hotel and Yirramboi Festival.

The lyricist whose emotive and playful music first drew crowds on Melbourne streets where she would busk, her body of work is now part of the next vanguard of Indigenous artists surging forwards.

In 2022, Canisha put herself on the map, performing alongside Adam Briggs and other First Nations artists at the Bad Apples House Party, and participating in Mushroom Group’s First Nations Pathway Program. Canisha was chosen as a 2023 recipient of the Singing our Futures music program run by the Archie Roach Foundation.

The Arts Bar opens from 7 pm. Allocated theatre style seating.
